The legendary part is the quattro all-wheel drive system, of course, while the Pikes Peak's variable-height adaptive air suspension, borrowed from the A6 all-road wagon, allows it to double as a low riding sports model and off-road champion depending on road conditions, or at least that's what we're led to believe. The SUV is able to rise to a maximum height of 280 mm (11.0 in) while driving off-road. As the vehicle voyages back to paved roads and picks up speed, it will automatically lower itself for better aerodynamics and a lower center of gravity. While this is a very handy feature it's nothing particularly new. Land Rover has been doing much the same for years while a variety of medium priced SUVs now have this feature as optional equipment.

The new Audi's generously curved styling however, shows an all-new direction for the German brand. Clearly defined outlines and muscular, taut surfaces are Audi character traits, but its deep, pronounced grille is now separated into two horizontal sections with an even more boldly shaped surrounding frame than current models. The new sign of future Audis is actually a blast from the past, pulling cues from prewar Auto Union racing cars. Xenon Plus headlamps, encased in clear glass covers, definitely make their presence felt while LED fog lamps and taillights offer the immediate brightness needed to ward off tailgaters.
