The CLX Plus adds a standard third row of seating for a maximum of seven occupants plus automatic climate control. Rooftop luggage rails and fold-away color-keyed power remote mirrors are standard equipment across the line while the stand alone options list includes a power sunroof, heated seats, leather trim, a 6-disc in-dash CD changer, DVD entertainment system, a variety of 5, 6 or 7 passenger seating configurations, plus GM's efficiently packaged all-wheel drive system and a trailer towing package that increases its pulling power to 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs).

While I have only driven the 2002 model, the identical specifications of the 2003 should prove the experience to be much the same. With that in mind the 185 hp 3.4-L OHV V6 that powers the Rendezvous is fairly low-tech compared to most of its competitor's multi-valve, double-overhead-cam engines. Still, it does the job of moving the 1,792 kg (3,951 lb) SUV and a full load of family members with admirable competency. Its handling is minivan-like, as would be expected considering its Chevy Venture roots, thus a modicum of body roll and chassis flex can be felt when pushing its limits. That said, under normal driving conditions its smooth Buick ride will coddle driver and passengers in comfort for hours on end.

At the end of the day Buick Rendezvous owners get a reliable, comfortable, five to seven passenger station wagon with refined SUV styling. Its maximum 2,919 L (103.1 cu ft) of cargo space accessible by a lifting rear tailgate gives it near minivan utility without the white bread toast and corn flakes stigma that some people associate with that category. Last but hardly least the Rendezvous offers a refreshing dose of distinctive styling separating it from the rest of the crowded SUV market.
