But although I was impressed, the Yukon is not perfect. First, there is no floor mounted console shifter. Moving the shift lever from the steering column to the console would encourage downshifting and enable easier use of engine braking. Next the gas pedal is too lightly sprung. Increasing the tension rate on the throttle would eliminate unintentional stabbing of the pedal when encountering road irregularities. I have noted this problem on other GM truck products and I just don't get it. Hasn't anyone at GM test driven one of their own trucks over bumpy surfaces and thought, "Jeez, my right foot tends to unintentionally jab the gas pedal when the vehicle bounces over undulating surfaces, heck we should increase the spring tension on the pedal." I guess not.

Both of these issues are obviously minor in nature and do not detract very much from a well thought-out and impressively engineered vehicle. Providing safety, comfort, performance and more utility than the majority of full-size SUVs available in today's market, the Yukon XL has few competitors.
