The XRS engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox designed to maximize themore powerful engine's performance. A 4-speed overdrive automatic transmissionis optional.
The XRS also features high-end performance equipment that ranges from ABSbrakes, an anti-theft system, larger tires with 17-inch alloy wheels, foglamps and a full skirt package to a premium 6-speaker AM/FM/CD/Cassettestereo.
Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, 3-point seatbelts for allpassengers, front seat pre-tensioners and force-limiters plus height-adjustable shoulder anchors for the front occupants. The back seat is equippedwith child restraint seat anchors, and rear doors have child protection locksfor added security.
Designed at Toyota's CALTY Design Research, Inc. in California, Matrixwill be built exclusively at the award-winning Toyota Motor ManufacturingCanada (TMMC) facility in Cambridge, Ontario. With an all-new platform whichit shares with the Toyota Corolla sedan, Matrix will be built on the sameassembly line as Corolla. Their next-generation technology positions Canadaand TMMC in the forefront of Toyota's future product development.
Pricing for the all-new 2003 Matrix will be released in January, justprior to its introduction at Toyota dealerships across Canada.
