First-gen TSX looks solid, but check the clutch
Problems and issues look pleasantly few and far between. Some owners on the web discuss a potentially weak or wimpy factory clutch that could wear out prematurely. Though this is largely a function of the previous owner’s driving habits, the clutch on the used TSX you're considering, if so equipped, should be scrutinized for proper operation. If the clutch slips or a high-pitch whining noise is apparent at speed, be double sure to have it checked by a mechanic. Ditto if the gear lever ‘pops out of gear’ on its own while you’re driving.

Ensure the power memory seats, remote keyfob, remote trunk release and all door locks work as expected, too. Check for proper operation of all windows, locks and the sunroof, too. Window regulators and door lock actuators are known issues on earlier TSX models.

Additionally, inspect the headlights for signs of discoloration or moisture damage. Many owners have reported that moisture and condensation can seep into the headlight housings over time, causing various problems.

End of the day, the first-generation Acura TSX looks like a very solid premium used car bet—and one that’s largely free of any major or systematic driveline problems. Of course, Honda reliability isn’t always cheap in the used vehicle marketplace—so expect to pay a premium for your used TSX. If you do, you’ll likely join a largely satisfied group of happy owners.
