The C-pillar behind the sliding door is also emphasized the way it is on a SUV, but buyers will have to put up with the fact that the track of the sliding door was not integrated with the rear windows. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Relay, but for the first time in a Saturn GM is offering optional Versatrak all-wheel drive for buyers who want the peace of mind of driving on low-traction surfaces, such as in snow, mud or wet grass.
Lajdziak said that she expects less than 10 percent of Saturn's buyers to choose AWD, a system built by Austria's Steyr-Daimler-Puch.
A first for GM's vans is that both can be equipped with the optional Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES) that improves handling, braking and acceleration by using a combination of systems including stability enhancement, anti-lock brakes, and traction control.
