Stylish, Practical, Fun and Inexpensive Concept Could See Production
While the chances of us North Americans getting products from Czech carmaker Skoda are slim to nothing, it's always a treat to see
the latest offerings and concepts from this Eastern European arm of Volkswagen. At this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, the brand showed off its latest performance car, the Octavia vRS, the hot sedan and wagon variants of the VW Golf GTI/Jetta GLI, but also the new Yeti Open Roof concept vehicle.
Since its introduction of the Yeti study earlier this spring at the Geneva motor show, Skoda has received positive comments and plenty of interest for this ultra compact van-cum-SUV. Its combination of space and compact form, plus hard-wearing exterior and interior components make it a little car with a lot of character, and all the practicality
of a Swiss Army knife. The Yeti's stylish and "non-threatening" exterior also provided the compact van market a new vehicle that wasn't a commercial vehicle with seats, like the VW Caddy or Opel Combi.
As its name suggests, the Yeti Open Roof is a reworked version of the original Yeti, but this is no hack 'n slash special. Substantial re-engineering was undertaken to turn the tall, hardtop Yeti into a variable convertible that also doubles as a pick-up truck. The theme for this concept was to produce a convertible that speaks to the heart and to the brain; sun and fun without losing an ounce of versatility or usability.
