For 2006, Audi is offering an S8 that is worthy of the "S" insignia. Using the Lamborghini Gallardo's 5.0L V10 and bumping displacement to 5.2L, the S8 will now officially be able to compete with the AMG Mercedes cars.
Fine-tuned to 450 hp and 400 lb/ft of torque, this engine is locked onto Audi's Quattro AWD system, an adaptive air suspension and handsome 20" wheels. All of this is lodged onto Audi's aluminium space frame and body panels. The car's weight is below 2,000 kg. This effectively means that the power to weight ratio is of over 230 hp per tonne. This is good enough to launch the S8 from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
One of the very few options that will be available on the S8 will be high-performance ceramic brakes.
