2007 Range Rover Supercharged Road Test

|
The interior design is classic Land Rover; the seating position is very high and the visibility, courtesy of a large glass area and extremely low beltline, is fantastic. The roof, understandably tall, is still able to fit into most underground parking lots. The SC does have its less-amusing quirks, though.

Interior opulence is courtesy of soft leather and slick wooden touches.

The picture on the rearview camera was murky. The rear park assist continues to beep, even after you've finished backing up and the SC is in park -- an incredibly annoying characteristic. The driver's side power window slowed to a crawl as it was being raised, although this may have been a function of the extremely cold weather. And the rear window washer fluid comes out of the wiper hinge and is, as a result, pretty much ineffectual.

Given the starting price of the 2007 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged -- a lofty $121,400 -- it's not unreasonable to expect that such design issues would be engineered out of the equation. Still, if you're looking for a luxury SUV with a generous amount of name-brand cachet and serious off-road capabilities, the Range Rover SC (rock)-climbs to the top of the charts.

Strong engine and transmission
Serious off-road capabilities
Fantastic cabin design

Lukewarm cold-weather performance
Odd braking system choices
Hefty price of admission

Ineffectual rear wiper washer
Low-tech rearview camera
Annoying rear park assist
