The 87th Vancouver International Auto Show wrapped-up on Sunday, April 8th after playing host to 22 of the largest, most influential auto makers in the world displaying more than 560 new makes and models. Some of those on display were the bread and butter of the auto industry while some featured cutting-edge hybrid and alternative energy technologies. Intermingled among the production, prototype and concept vehicles were many of the hottest, most prestigious exotics available at any price.

Paying homage to the automobile's past, the Vancouver show included a special Vintage Auto Day during which 25 vintage cars paraded to BC Place Stadium, where they lined-up on the concourse to greet visitors for the remainder of the day. The vintage collection included a 1929 Model A, a 1927 Essex Coupe, a 1923 Packard, a 1913 Model T, a 1912 REO, a 1947 Chevy, a 1965 Mustang GT, a 1936 Ford Coupe, a 1947 Mercury Convertible and a 1952 Chrysler Convertible.

The Vancouver International Auto Show was about much more than cars and trucks, new or old; holistic is the word that comes to mind thanks to an emphasis on safety, value and the environment. Natural Resources Canada was on-hand to impart important messages about the environment and fuel efficiency.

Despite its emphasis on "green," the show's testosterone factor was not diluted. Plenty of hi-octane was on display from Porsche, Aston Martin, Lotus and others. These are the rides that most of us only dream of. They represent the pinnacle of automotive prestige and performance. Which one would I drive home? That's easy, please pass the keys to the number "99" Ford GT40 autographed by the legend himself, Wayne Gretzky.
