The seats are extremely comfortable and supportive. The driving position is simply ideal for a sports car, although the pedals are slightly too close to each other, requiring an awkward leg bend.
With a cabriolet, the roof should stay down as long as possible, but there are times when you need to drive with the top up. It's not always fun times because wind noise is often too present, not to mention the exhaust note. However, with the TT Roadster, occasional drives with the roof in place are fairly quiet and thus much more enjoyable. And while the trunk is not sedan-like, it actually offers more cargo room than most competitors.
Wind in the hair
My tester did not deliver the best performance of all TTs, but its 3.2L V6 did a great job nevertheless. I would have liked a tad more power at times, but this mill is certainly no slouch by any stretch of the imagination.
Most important of all, it came with Audi's quattro AWD system and highly-precise S-tronic transmission. The latter offers convenient paddle shifters on the steering wheel. You'll be glad to have them whenever you feel the urge to drive aggressively, but you'll forget about them just as easily in more relaxed driving conditions.
On the other hand, the suspension is not really suited for daily use despite being remarkably effective on the track (I also tested the car in Niagara-on-the-Lake). The firm settings accentuate every bump and pothole in the road, which will likely irritate your passenger. That being said, the exceptionally rigid chassis is virtually torsion-free, even with the roof down. Not bad for a convertible.
All in all, the 2008 Audi TT Roadster has lots of style, character and gusto. Truth is, in addition to its look, buyers are won over by its driving experience. And being driven is all the TT asks for...
