As if 400 horsepower wasn't enough, the 2008 'Vette will get a bigger engine as well as a bunch of other improvements.

An all-new 6.2-liter V8 will power the Corvette Coupe and Convertible models. Code-named LS3, it produces 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque, 30 and 24 more than the 2007 model, respectively.

An optional dual-mode exhaust system will add another 6 horses and 4 lb-ft of torque. Among other changes, GM lists high-flow cylinder heads, an enhanced valvetrain, a high-flow intake manifold, improved manual transmission shift effort, quicker shifts from the paddle-shift automatic, and an improved steering feel.

A 2.73 performance axle ratio is optional for automatic Corvettes, but comes standard with the Z51 package on 6-speed manual models.

On the outside, the Covette will get new split-spoke aluminum wheels, and polished wheels will be optional. There will also be two new colors: Jetstream Blue and Crystal Red replace LeMans Blue and Monterey Red.

Inside, the dashboard gets new trim including brushed aluminum accents, the sill plates are new, and a two-tone leather-wrapped interior package will also be available.

Gadget freaks will be happy to know there will be a keyless access fob, an auxiliary input jack for all sound systems except the one with navigation, and OnStar as well as XM radio will be standard on all models.

Chevrolet claims the 2008 Corvette can reach 190 mph (304 km/h), while the automatic-equipped version is the fastest ever, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

The Corvette Z06 with its 505-horsepower, 7.0-liter V8 will soldier on in 2008 virtually unchanged.

"Corvette is an uncompromising sports car that rewards its owners with impeccable performance and great comfort," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "The changes and enhancements to the 2008 Corvette reflect continual improvements that speak to Chevrolet's unflagging commitment to building the best sports car - and with nearly 55 years of experience, the Corvette just keeps getting better and better."
