GXP is to Pontiac what AMG is to Mercedes... OK, maybe not to the same extent. GXP equals an influx of power and performance into Pontiac products. The current lineup holds only the turbocharged Solstice and V8 Grand Prix. By the time you read these lines, the 2008 G6 coupe and sedan, as well as the 2008 Torrent SUV will be infused with GXP love.
The 2008 G6 GXP, replacing the 2007 G6 GTP, will also feature GM's engine-of-the-moment 3.6-liter DOHC 24-valve V6. It will still produce 252 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque in GXP duty, and will be coupled to a 6-speed automatic. Base and Street Edition models will be offered, the latter including 18-inch chrome wheels, polished front grilles, hood scoops, a dual exhaust and a huge rear spoiler.
The Torrent GXP gets the same engine and transmission, but with 263 horsepower. The powertrain combo will be good enough to launch the Torrent GXP to 100 km/h in 7 seconds. Visually, the GXP will sport 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, dual exhaust tips, a lower stance thanks to a lowered suspension, side rocker panels, black interior trim and optional perforated leather seats with suede inserts. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions will both be available.
The new GXP models should hit dealerships very shortly.
