The idea is a noble one: to give consumers a chance to experience what it's like to drive a car that runs solely on electricity. A microcar from Myers and a Mitsubishi i-MIEV (both unavailable in North America) allow common folks to get a concrete glimpse of the future.

As mentioned yesterday, Chinese brands BYD and Brilliance now have their spot in the main exhibition hall. The former, which is backed by none other than Warren Buffett, took the opportunity to confirm plans to enter the North American market in the near future by selling unique electric hybrid cars.

Meanwhile, the latter is showcasing a comprehensive range of products. However, representatives said that sales operations in the U.S. would only begin once the conditions are favorable.

In the end, despite the more basic approach by automakers, the 2009 NAIAS proved to be not that disappointing after all!
