Another green shift!
Quebec - This week, auto fans in the Greater Quebec City area will flock to Expocité for the 2009 Quebec Auto Show, which kicked off earlier today and lasts until Sunday. Presented by the Corporation des concessionnaires d'automobiles de la régionale de Québec (CCARQ), the 28th edition of this event showcases more than 275 vehicles, including six regional premieres.

Pontiac Solstice

Visitors can admire two new sports coupes: the Pontiac Solstice and Hyundai Genesis. The Kia Forte compact sedan, smart Brabus as well as the Porsche Boxster S and Cayman S also make their debut on Quebec soil.

This year's honorary automaker, Kia Canada, is displaying a pair of interesting concepts that could very well lead to future production models. The Koup is a compact sports coupe based on the Forte, while the Soul Hybrid is a more environmentally-friendly version of the all-new Soul.

All about green!
Reflecting the auto industry's green shift, the 2009 Quebec Auto Show turns the spotlight on four electric vehicles that were mostly or completely designed right here in La Belle Province.

Two of them are low-speed vehicles (LSV), including the NEMO MUST HD2 pickup truck, built in St. Therese, and the ZENN, manufactured in St. Jerome. Hydro-Québec and its TM4 subsidiary are presenting the Indica Vista Concept, which was developed in partnership with Indian automaker Tata. Finally, Véhicules électriques du Québec showcases an electrically-powered, tuned-up Mazda3 offering a range of up to 100 kilometers.

"Given the current state of the auto industry, it stood to reason that we follow the green trend," said Richard Bélanger, general manager of the Quebec Auto Show. "Consumers are fond of these vehicles. After all, many expect to be driving an electric car a few years from now."
