While its entry wasn’t spectacular, its success just might be, at least in Canada, where little convenient hatchbacks are very well-received. The Kia Forte 5-Door Hatchback is a great example of a line up that’s expanding in a wise and efficient way.

Other than its 5-door hatch appeal, it also boasts its very own redesigned front bumper that gives it an aggressive edge, as well as wheels that are exclusive to the version. It inherits the line up’s list of engines, including 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre 4-cylinder mills. The former generates 156 hp while the latter kicks out 173 hp.

Kia Magentis – Optima

We don’t know yet what it’ll be called over here, but one thing is certain: it’ll turn a head or two. The one they call Optima in the US and Magentis in Canada is a veritable sensation. While it does bring its cousin to mind, the new Hyundai Sonata, it has its very own, slightly sportier style and a raised belt line that gives it a bit of an athletic edge.

The 2011 Kia Optima comes with a choice of three new, highly efficient Theta II engines: a 2.4-litre, direct injection model (never before seen from Kia), a 2.0-litre, direct injection, turbocharged mill and a 2.4-litre hybrid drive. Just like the Hyundai Sonata, wouldn’t you know it?

BMW B7 Alpina

The BMW 7 Series is imposing, but its B7 Alpina derivative is even more so. And the one presented in New York not only retains the main features of the 7 Series, but it adds the Xdrive AWD system, and the line up’s new-generation twin-turbo engine to the mix.

One of BMW’s partners, Alpina designed and created the mechanical and aesthetic upgrades that make the B7 even more exclusive. It comes at an equally exclusive price that isn’t in everyone’s reach. The 2011 B7 Alpina is only the second generation of this type to be offered on this side of the pond.
