BMW 5 Series
It’s not exactly news, as Auto123.com had already reviewed it a few months ago in Portugal. Despite that, with its new and unique turbo engine, its updated profile and its multiple technological upgrades, the new BMW 5 Series will bear looking out for in the future.
It must be said that the German manufacturer is counting heavily on this mid-range sedan to maintain its popularity in a decidedly competitive class. So what’s on the menu? Everything that luxury sedans do best, on top of a muscular engine and active steering. Oh yes, and a style that’s all the rage.
Acura TSX Wagon
Its detractors will say that it’s nothing but a rebadged, European Honda Accord. Which is, you guessed it, not entirely false, as it’s indeed the nearly identical sibling of the European wagon. But it still benefits from a dollop of Acura flair, including a high-end finish and the grille that some would rather never have seen again.
A mechanical technicality, the wagon version will only inherit the 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder engine of the TSX sedan and will not be calling on the services of the 6-cylinder mill. The new model will hit Canadian dealerships this fall.
Mini Countryman
It seemed like an April Fools’ joke, and the folks at MINI took advantage of this goofy tradition to turn the New York unveiling of the Countryman into a major event. Carefully hidden beneath a sheet and a square box, the Countryman didn’t go unnoticed, though it wasn’t unanimously applauded.
True, it is an unprecedented combination. Taking a meticulously styled car like the Mini and giving it the shape, miniaturized, but still, of an SUV is not something that can be overlooked. They claim it has retained the go-kart-like handling of the original while boasting a 90 to 184-head stable depending on the model. The fact remains that the SUV side is more symbolic and for overall effect than truly genuine.
