High price, huge thirst, and the complexity of certain features will leave a lot of admirers on the outside looking in.

Price
The 2013 S 63 AMG starts at $151,600. It comes with standard electrical tilt and telescopic wheel, multicontour seats that provide great support, KEYLESS-GO, a multitude of driving assist features, performance package, multicolour ambient lighting ,PARKTRONIC with Advanced Parking Guidance and premium AMG seats.

Options include heated wood/leather steering wheel at $900, optional deluxe rear seating at $3,500 and the $900 Splitview package.

You can also add the high-performance ambiophonic Bang & Olufsen audio system for $6,500 as well as THERMOTRONIC rear climate control for $2,200.

The 2013 S 65 AMG starts at $236,100. Extremely well equipped, it offers only the Splitview package at $900, and the rear-seat entertainment package at $2,400 as available options.

Fuel consumption
The S 63 is rated at 13.8 L/100 km city and 9.1 L/100 km highway. The S 65 AMG ratings are 17.4 L/100 km city and 10.7 L/100 km highway respectively.

Exterior design

The 20-inch wheels add the same elegance and distinction to those found on the S-Class, with a unique, sportier edge to match its racy lines.
The AMG signature is evident, witness the quadruple exhaust pipes, unique AMG lower bodywork and bulging fenders, and its exclusive 20-inch AMG alloy wheels

Drivetrain

The S 63 AMG is equipped with a 5.5 litre V8 that produces 536 hp and 590 ft-lb of torque. The rear-wheel drive system is hooked up to a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT transmission.

The S 65 AMG is powered by a twin-turbo 6 litre V12. The whopping 612 hp and 738 ft-lb of torque drive the rear wheels via a 5-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT automatic gearbox.

Trunk capacity
The S63 and 65 offer 550 and 560 litres of luggage room respectively.

Security
Active and passive security is provided by an impressive list of technological goodies designed to protect Mercedes-Benz S 63 and S 65 AMG occupants, including; stability control, various braking-assist devices, attention assist, blind-spot alert, 360 degree camera, and adaptive speed control. These safety features are complimented with an array of eight airbags.
