The fastest and most capable Camaro ever

Not to be upstaged by the upcoming Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the new 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 has some big performance feats to report, most recently achieving a top speed of 198 mph (318 km/h) on the High Speed Oval at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg GmBH proving ground.

Compensating for wind speed, the top speed is the average from running the ZL1 in both directions on the 12.3km loop—202.3 mph (325 km/h) in one direction and 193.3 mph (311 km/h) in the other direction.

Credit goes to the ZL1’s 650-horsepower, supercharged LT4 engine, production Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires, and special aero features including a stanchion rear spoiler that offers an advantageous lift/drag ratio compared to a blade-style rear spoiler.

Additional performance capabilities of the Chevy Camaro ZL1 tested with the available 10-speed automatic transmission include:

  • - 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.5 seconds
  • - Quarter mile in 11.4 seconds
  • - 1.02g max cornering

Also, watch the new 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1’s record lap of 7:29.60 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which is 11.67 seconds quicker than the previous ZL1’s fast lap.
