2019 Awards: And the Winners Are…!

Derek Boshouwers
The industry is in flux, it is dynamic, and by general agreement the cars it produces are better than ever!

After a feverish run-up since the finalists were first announced a few weeks ago, the 2019 Awards were handed out today at a special ceremony in Toronto. An expert panel consisting of seven of our veteran contributors and test drivers had placed their votes in each of the 19 categories for the cars, SUVs and trucks they considered the best and most noteworthy this year. Only vehicles tested and sold before November 1st were eligible for consideration.

Congratulations to all the winners this year. And, we can’t wait to start the process all over again, especially as the quick-changing state of the automotive universe means there are surprises and delights galore ahead of us. The future’s so bright, we gotta wear shades…

Without further ado, here—cue drumroll—is the list of winners. Make sure to follow the links for more detailed information about each of the winning models!

Finalists: Honda Fit – Kia Rio

“A versatile choice in hatchback form,... this is a car that trades on its reputation as a well-priced commuter or city-oriented second vehicle that's easy to park, cheap to maintain and reasonably good (7.3 L/100 km) on gas.”

- Benjamin Hunting,

"The Korean subcompact makes you feel like you're at the wheel of a compact car, nothing less."

- Vincent Aubé,
