GM unveils answer to Ford’s GT

At the Dubai International Motor Show, in the city where everything is outrageously sized and designed, Chevrolet unveiled its all-new 2019 Corvette ZR1, the fastest and most powerful production Corvette ever created.

Just how powerful is it? Its 6.2L supercharged V8 LT5 develops 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. The blower used in this engine is 52% larger than the one in the LT4 of the Corvette Z06; also included is a dual-injection system (direct and port injection). The standard 7-speed manual gearbox can be replaced by an optional 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel – a first for the ZR1.

“I’ve never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there’s never been one like this before. Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back.”

- Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain

Inspired by Corvette Racing’s C7.R race car
The 2019 Corvette ZR1’s front end is designed to channel maximum air for propulsion-system and drivetrain cooling. Four new radiators have been installed and the carbon-fibre hood integrates a central air intake. What’s more, the model comes with two aerodynamic packages, fine-tuned in wind-tunnel testing; one includes a standard rear Low Wing that allows the new ZR1 to hit a top speed of over 210 mph (338 km/h), the other an adjustable High Wing which generates around 950 pounds of downforce for the quickest lap times. All models also feature a Chevrolet-first, downforce-enhancing front underwing.

Among the available exterior colours, Orange Sebring is the new choice. This design package also includes body-coloured brake calipers, rocker and splitter accent stripes, seat belts and stitching, as well as exclusive bronze aluminum interior trim.

The cabin is decked out with leather seats featuring sueded microfibre inserts, with an option to add seat heating and ventilation. Other add-ons available to buyers include a carbon-fibre-rimmed steering wheel, competition sport seats, a performance data recorder and a Bose premium audio system.

Pricing has not yet been announced; it should be known closer to the arrival of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 on the market next spring.
