VW Canada has stocked up on 2019s to make sure it can meet demand beyond December 30

The Volkswagen Golf is about to get a full revision, and is often the case with VW prior to it launching a new generation, some variants of the current model are being pulled in anticipation of rolling out the new one.

We recently reported on the cancellation of the Sportwagen and Alltrack wagons, for example.

Now comes confirmation the Golf R performance variant will also be absent from the VW roster in 2020. Speculation has been out there for several days now, and Volkswagen Canada has now confirmed that 2019 will be the last for the R version of the 7th-generation Golf.

However, VW Canada’s head of communications, Thomas Tetzlaff, also confirmed to us that the company here had ordered a TON of 2019 Golf Rs so that dealerships could continue to meet demand once the calendar flips to 2020.

Eventually, we will get an R variant of the next-gen Golf, but at present we don’t know when that might be.

As for the rest of the Golf family, for 2020 it will consist of the regular 5-door Golf, the e-Golf and the GTI.

Thomas Tetzlaff added he hoped to be able soon to provide us with more detailed information regarding that new 8th-generation Golf that is so impatiently awaited.

Stay tuned.
