3 - The pricing

With styling that’s more handsome than fetching and a drifting brand identity, the new QX60 enters the ring with one or two strikes against it, clearly. Fortunately, the news isn't all bad. There are positives in the dollar figures.

In its segment, the QX60 is up against some familiar and powerful rivals, namely the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Cadillac XT5, Genesis GV80, Lincoln Aviator, Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz GLE, to name a few.

Not only is the QX60 more reasonably priced than many of those rivals, its equipment level is the equal of just about all of them. At the top of the SUV’s trim hierarchy, the Autograph version delivers an all-inclusive package that's pretty attractive. The beauty of it is that even then, the QX60's pricing remains “reasonable”.

In a nutshell, price of entry for the QX60 in 2022 starts at around $57,000 and tops out at around $72,000.

Go shopping at any German-brand dealership and you'll be paying a lot more. Yes, there's the prestige of a silver star or four rings, but in the end, what are you looking for? If it's a roomy, feature-rich luxury SUV, and reliability and discretion are more important to you than image and flare, the QX60 becomes an interesting choice.

4 - The compromises

But while it’s certainly an interesting choice, it’s also one that requires buyers to make a few small compromises. For example, you don't have engine options with the QX60, unlike what you normally find in this category. You get the 3.5L V6, which is a Swiss Army knife within the Japanese brand, and that’s it. If you don’t like it you can lump it. The engine does offer 295 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, which is enough for the role this vehicle must play but won’t win any brute power contests.

The good news is that we're talking about a proven engine here. Yes, it's reliable.
