5 - The new transmission
Infiniti made the very wise and wonderful decision to ditch the continuously variable transmission and use a traditional transmission for this second generation. When the JX was introduced in 2013 (it was renamed the QX60 in its second year, 2014), this was THE element that disappointed everyone.
Let's be clear about this. We're not knocking the efficiency of Nissan-Infiniti’s CVT technology here, but for the experience behind the wheel, it doesn't fit with what you'd expect from a luxury model.
A bonus benefit of the new transmission is that it allows for boosting the QX60’s towing capacity from 5,000 to 6,000 lb.
6 - The onboard experience
This is by far the strongest point of the QX60. Its inside is a well-designed environment, in fact the entire design of it is very nearly beyond reproach. The quality of the materials passes the premium test, and the design of the dashboard and centre console area is top-notch. User-friendliness is on point with easy-to-use controls. And no, you don't have to go into the menus of the navigation system to adjust a lot of the usual functions, such as the intensity of the climate control settings.
As for the multimedia interface, it does what it's supposed to do, which is to offer users all the connectivity needed while leaving them the option of connecting, or not.
In the back, there's plenty of room in the second row, and access to the third row is made easier by the fact that you can slide the captain's chairs forward to free up space. It's not perfect, but it's definitely maximized the space available.
Assembly quality is maybe where there’s still room for improvement, any complaints we had about the interior are rare and minor.
