For a "Zenn" experience
The ZENN has been the topic of many discussions lately, and for good reason. The small, two-passenger city crawler falls into the LSV category and can be used as secondary transport to cover short distances in the city or the country. It would be perfect for shopping, for instance, especially when you consider that its operating cost is estimated between 1.5 and 3 cents per kilometre. In comparison, the use of a heat engine costs around 12 to 19 cents per kilometre.

The batteries can be fully charged in eight hours and enable an operating range between 48 and 80 km. However, they can recharge 80% in four hours once they've been fully drained.

The ZENN is assembled in a plant in Saint-Jérôme, north of Montreal. That's where it's fitted with an electric engine, six maintenance-free lead batteries, a charger, various electronic components and an aluminum body imported from France and produced by Microcar, a manufacturer of small, "licence-free" cars.

Tata on Canadian soil!
Lastly, Hydro-Québec and its subsidiary, TM4, presented the Indica Vista EV prototype developed in collaboration with Indian manufacturer Tata and Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault. Equipped with a TM4 MØTIVE drive system and a lithium-ion battery designed by Electrovaya in Toronto, the car will be produced on a small scale (110 units) in Norway by Miljø Innovasjon.

TM4 specializes in power generation and the development of electric engines and permanent magnet generators. The drive system designed by Hydro-Québec allows for top speeds of 110 km/h and accelerations from 0 to 60 km/h in under 10 seconds.

The Tata's operating range can reach up to 200 km and its batteries can be fully charged in eight hours using a 220-volt outlet.

The standard Tata Indica Vista EV, unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show this week, will benefit from air bags, ABS brakes and four seats.

These electric cars are on display at the Quebec City Auto Show until March 8, at the ExpoCité conference centre in Quebec City.
