More than 2,000 fans showed up to meet film icon Billy Dee Williams in New York's Times Square this week when the legendary actor starred in Oldsmobile's ambitious, month-long promotionto raise funds for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Williams was delivered to New York's Planet Hollywood in five Oldsmobile Bravadas, which are the primary transportation for the company's "Celebrity Convoy" fundraising campaign. He thenconducted a meet and greet with excited fans of all ages, while encouraging donations to the Tom Joyner Foundation supporting students attending HBCUs. The Foundation has distributedmore than $9 million to qualified students.
The legendary actor who recently appeared in the film "The Ladies' Man" with "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Tim Meadows, is renowned for his galactic roles in "The Empire Strikes Back" and"Return of the Jedi," not to mention parts in the richly memorable "Lady Sings The Blues," "Mahogany" and "Brian's Song."
Williams can be seen alongside comic actor Eddie Griffin in the upcoming movie, "Undercover Brother," which was filmed in Canada.
Williams' partnership with Oldsmobile was established earlier this year with his recording of two radio spots.
