Work spaces in the Projekthaus are designed so that walls can be easily moved at the beginning of a new project, throwing together those that are responsible for bringing an idea to fruition. The company believes that such close proximity, with face-to-face exchange not only encourages the sharing of ideas, but quickly helps in finding solutions in problems that arise.
Designer of the 1 Series, Nicholas Huet, who works in the Designhaus space once occupied by the infamous Chris Bangle, says that the beauty of this arrangement is that any disagreement between design and engineering on any level can be quickly corrected. Over coffee at the Frankfurt show later that week, he spoke highly of the atmosphere, which is conducive to the creative flow.
Unfortunately, we're not allowed access to the Designhaus – works in progress are guarded like state secrets.
At the end of our tour, we hand in our visitor's badges in return for our passports and we're escorted off the premises. An intriguing visit that leaves one wishing only that it could be longer, or more revealing.
