On the outside, the new sedan looks like a 4-door Evoq because that showcar roadster was actually created after the sedan, using design vocabulary from the future sedan we saw and all the other Cadillacs to follow in the next decade.

GM's vice-president of design, Wayne Cherry, has repeatedly stated how he and his young staff members would make Cadillac's theme of Art and Science take shape, but it never made much sense until they showed off this car.

Cherry has been promising a Cadillac style that is separate from its competitors and from other GM brands because it is so distinct, using shapes that look computer-generated rather than hand-sculpted, with "lean, sheer, efficient sections punctuated by sharply delineated lines" and "crisp intersections." These shapes are supposed to be "trendsetting, bold and handsome" and will "showcase technology."

All of Cadillac's cars for the next 10 years will have a front view with an "imposing" shield shape with an eggcrate texture that's machine-milled from steel and a prominent center emblem between a horizontal header and a V-ed bottom, all bracketed by strong vertical headlights.

Those headlights, says Cherry, will also be precise, instrument-like, and "driver-enhancing."From the side, all future Cadillacs will have a strong full-length spline with an emphasis on the vertical ends and a strong trapezoidal sail. The intent is for the side view to be pure, strong, sheer, milled and "in tension."
