Cadillac rear ends will feature a full-width centre high-mounted stoplight with an integrated emblem and vertically-oriented taillights that are "blade-like and imposing."

Underneath the art of the cars' exteriors will be various applications of science, as expressed in forms, materials and textures that suggest the high-tech, space age history and talents of the U.S., as well as various cutting-edge technologies for the occupants to use.

These design components will significantly differentiate Cadillac from the under-stated exterior shapes of the European luxury brands it intends to take on, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, and Volvo.

Cadillac will take on these brands (and Lincoln) here in North America, and a few models in particular will be created with an eye to moving more onto the world stage and taking the foreign brands on all fronts.

This will not happen right away, by the way, since GM president Richard Wagoner made it clear in an interview that the marque must first look after its home market in North America by designing vehicles that appeal to American and Canadian tastes. That would include the next version of the Escalade sport-ute that's due next year, the much-rumored Cadillac pickup and of course the recently released generation of DeVille, which is likely to remain a North America-only product when it's upgraded again near the middle of the decade.
