Unveiled in Detroit a month ago, the Chevrolet Bolt EV concept has just been confirmed for production. It will be built at General Motors’ Orion assembly plant near Detroit, although the time has yet to be determined. Expect to see the car on the road by 2017.
Orion will receive a $160 million investment for tooling and equipment as it prepares for Bolt production.
“The message from consumers about the Bolt EV concept was clear and unequivocal: Build it,” said GM North America President Alan Batey. “We are moving quickly because of its potential to completely shake up the status quo for electric vehicles.”
The Chevrolet Bolt EV concept was designed to offer more than 320 kilometres of range at a target price of around $30,000 USD.
