Canadian rider Don Hatton was forced to retire during the third leg of the 2013 Dakar rally.

After David Bensadoun went home following an engine failure during the second day of the event, and now, another Canadian had an early exit.

Don Hatton, from British Columbia, was involved in a freak accident when he got stuck in the dunes, before a truck hit his motorbike.

Hatton was fortunately  unhurt and was able to continue, but his KTM bike was unable to reach the finish line, being stuck in neutral following big damages to the gear selector.

That’s the third retirement out of three Dakar rallies for Hatton, after he failed to finish in 2009 and 2010. Hatton had planned to participate in the 2012 race, but he was seriously injured in an accident on his farm, in Canada several weeks before the start.

Patrick Beaule (KTM), from Montreal is the last Canadian still competing in the rally. He was ranked 55th overall on Monday evening.
