New edition will debut in New York

The New York International Auto Show will be the setting in late March for the official debut of the remodeled new 2019 Nissan Altima. Along with the Rogue crossover this is one of the flagship models in the automaker’s lineup, and any news pertaining to it automatically grabs the attention of consumers.

It’s no surprise then to see Nissan tease a first image ahead of the premiere, and so we have for you an early design sketch of the new 2019 edition. The image reveals highly expressive lines and hints at the design traits that will define future Nissan vehicles. It also indicates the model is a logical follow-up to the Vmotion 2.0 concept vehicle, first introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Like this prototype, the new Altima’s front fascia incorporates a prominent V-shaped front grill, flanked by profiled LED headlights integrated into both the nose and flanks of the car.

As for the interior, we know, despite not having access to any images yet, that modifications will be equally substantial. The central screen will be larger and provide access to the company’s latest connectivity technologies. Rumours are that the quality of materials will be seriously upgraded – a decision that may be an indicator of trouble ahead for the current top sedan in the Nissan stable, the Maxima, sales of which have plummeted in recent years.

Base models of the new Altima will likely be powered by a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine working with a CVT transmission. Certain models will come with an available 4-cylinder turbo, replacing the current optional V6. Standard front–wheel drive will be replaceable by an all-wheel drive option, according to what we’re hearing.

Of course, we’ll be keeping you posted when the official reveal takes place in New York later this month. Dealerships should be getting the 2019 Nissan Altima in their showrooms in the months following its premiere.
