Martin Tomczyk (Audi A4) leads provisional DTM classification with his 2008-spec car, before the 5th round presented this week-end at the Norisring. Not a surprise for his main championship contender, canadian driver Bruno Spengler.

Winner of the last rounds at Spielberg (Austria) and Lausitzring, Martin Tomczyk took provisional championship lead ahead of Bruno Spengler, who was standing in first position since in win in the opening round in Hockenheim.

After nine years with the work Audi team Abt Sportline, the german driver was demoted to semi-private Audi team Phoenix, where he drives a 2008-spec car. Although, he now leads provisional championship after a rocky start of season, ahead of Audi and Mercedes’s work drivers.

Bruno Spengler, who now stands second only one point behind Tomczyk, believes that the german driver will be a title contender until the end of the season.

"That’s not a surprise to find him at the top of the standing," Bruno Spengler told auto123.com. "Tomczyk is a good driver, as everybody knows. He just ran out of luck in 2010, with some mechanical issues but he was still performant. The car is good too, there were not so much techical evolutions between 2008 and our 2009-spec cars. Moreover, these cars are now 25 kgs lighters than our cars, which is very important in terms of performances. And team Phoenix has also a lot of experience, including in other series such as GT and Nürburgring 24 Hours, where the team just clinched a 3rd place overall last week-end. They are very good in race strategy, and there will be in front until the end of the season..."
