For the first time in history, the Formula 1 cars circulated at night just like the Le Mans cars. The circuit of Singapore welcomes this weekend the first ever F1 night race. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton dominated the time sheets.
In the first session, Hamilton planted his McLaren-Mercedes to first place, beating the Ferrari duo of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.
Mark Webber became the first driver to crash on this circuit, damaging the suspension of his Red Bull-Renault.
In the second session, Renault's Fernando Alonso emerged quickest, despite not beating Hamilton's time. Alonso was followed by Hamilton, Massa and his teammate, Heikki Kovalainen.
The drivers are pleased with the lightning system. "It's a lot of fun," said the 23-year-old Nico Rosberg. "It is a little more difficult to see than usual, but it isn't a problem. However, the track is so bumpy that it gives you a headache."
