Fiat, who currently owns a 50% stake in VM Motori, is looking to buy GM's other half and take full control of the diesel engine manufacturer based in Cento, Italy.
The transaction is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Specifics have not been disclosed yet.
VM Motori supplies engines for a number of vehicles including the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
