Derek Kuzak, Ford’s Chief of Product Development, has announced that the automaker is aiming for the same fuel economy ratings as Volkswagen’s BlueMotion technology, the industry champion.
He says that particular attention is currently being paid to elements such as aerodynamics, rolling resistance and weight in order to reduce to a minimum the use of oil in their future cars, trucks and SUVs.
Does that mean consumers will soon be able to get their hands on a Fiesta that sips as little as a Polo BlueMotion? The latter consumes just 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres (combined) while Ford’s product currently burns 6.2 litres of fuel over the same distance.
