The 2005 Mustang was a monumental one for Ford- it marked the carmakers return to a nostalgic look from years gone by. This signal of the models
longevity helped designers and engineers focus their efforts on creating the best Mustang yet- keeping its legacy rolling.
Not that there was anything wrong with the Mustangs look just the way it was, but it caught the eyes of a pair of leading Italian coachbuilders, who thought they could add a bit of their own style and passion to the mix.
"When we saw the new Mustang, we knew two things: It was the best we'd seen since the original, and we had to get our hands on one," said Fabrizio Giugiaro, styling director of Italdesign - Giugiaro S.P.A. "We still believe it's important to show the automotive world pure exercises in style that interpret key models reflecting the history and image of important brands."
The resulting car is called the Mustang by Guigiaro. It's powered by Ford Racing and looks visually more striking and dynamic than the original car while maintaining its underlying identity. All the while, its tasteful lines, sleek and sculpted silhouette and supercharged, 500 horsepower engine
convey a tastefully concocted mixture of Italian passion and American grit.
It's not the first Italianized Mustang - the Bertone Mustang of the mid sixties came from the same design studio.
It's not some fussy concept machine that isn't intended to be driven either. Giugiaro says "the Mustang by Giugiaro drives as good as it looks. After taking it to the limits on streets outside of Turin, I can honestly say this car was well worth the 30,000 hours of blood, sweat and tears that we invested to create a modern performance classic."
