The story inside the Mach 1 is a mixed bag, as it is in all Mustangs. It is here that the Mustang gives away its nearly quarter-century old platform, as the design solutions of yesteryear yield ergonomic compromises today, especially for taller or larger drivers.

Sprucing up the interior is a seat design much like the original Mach 1, with "Comfort Weave" leather trim and not bad support, certainly compared to the '69 variety. Audio is certainly an upgrade over the old AM/8-track set-up, featuring Ford's powerhouse MACH 460 system with in-dash 6-CD changer. This is one area I am happy to report is not retro.

The Interior Upgrade Package adds aluminum-look trim everywhere, stainless-steel pedals which are very nice for gripping your shoe, an aluminum shift knob which will be very hot in the summer, and an instrument cluster styled to look like the original version.

"Looking original" describes the entire interior and exterior, come to think of it, as today's Mustang is a modern interpretation of the '60's icons in most of its design elements. The Mach 1 package adds to that, right down to matt-black paint stripe on the hood and lower body-side stripe with the original Mach 1 logo.
