Some folks can't live without their cell phones, others need a video game fix every so often, and some student types would most likely starve if not for the use of a microwave oven.

Most technology we Canadians make part of our lives has some way of making it a little easier and saving us some time. Ford proudly boasts being

responsible for one such technology. It's called the keypad and it's a feature on Ford products which has more to offer than you might imagine.

The keypad allows drivers to unlock doors, disarm the alarm system and disable the auto-lock function simply by pressing a 5-digit code. It makes life easier by allowing easy access to your vehicle when your hands are full, or when you're in a hurry- for instance in the rain.

Some even use the keypad system so that they can leave their keys inside the car (hidden) while they work out, shop or go to school.

Introduced over 20 years back, the keypad can now be installed to any Ford or Lincoln product for under $150. Dealers can install the keypad anywhere, not just on the door. A popular place is out of sight on the rear bumper, for instance.

"Once you're a keypad user, you swear by it," says Steve Had, Ford's Cross Vehicle Product Marketing manager. "Keypad is a part of Ford and Lincoln Mercury owners' lifestyles, and as an exclusive feature on our products, it has become a signature for the brands."
