The long straightaway ends with a tight, fast-paced combination of left and right turns. The engine roars, I fail to apply enough braking force and the car runs over the rumble strip, bouncing and slowing down as other drivers close in from the outside. A good jab at the throttle and I’m on my way to the finish line. With a bit of sweat, I manage to steal third place.

That’s right: I’m racing a powerful Audi R8 V10 at Road America not on the actual track but rather on a big-screen TV! You see, I’m one of the lucky few who got a taste of the all-new Forza Motorsport 3 video game to be released in a couple of weeks.
As a racing game enthusiast, I have to admit that I had been eagerly waiting for the latest installment in the Forza Motorsport series. The first two were phenomenal evolutions and the third one promised to be equally spectacular and entertaining. Mission accomplished!
Visually speaking, not a single graphic is missing. The tracks and cars are incommensurably rich with details and precision. The number of polygons in the design has been significantly increased for an even more lifelike experience. Sure, the in-car driving view somewhat lacks texture, but who cares, really?
Outside, the game maker (Microsoft) allows players to customize their rides to extreme extents. And if you don’t like the available paints, decals and logos, you can create your own and even sell them via a "storefront" on Xbox Live.
A total of 405 cars and more than a hundred venues are depicted in Forza Motorsport 3.
That said, the beauty of this game is the level of competition offered to players. Whether you’re a true novice or a seasoned champion, you can test your limits, learn a ton of new tricks and enjoy thrills like you’ve never enjoyed before.
