The next-generation Chevrolet Impala will get a whole new look and DNA as it moves upmarket and becomes the brand's new flagship sedan, Automotive News reports.
Due in 2013 as a 2014 model, the Impala will ride on the longer version of GM's re-engineered Epsilon platform, similar to the 2013 Cadillac XTS. The current platform has been underpinning the Malibu since 2008.
Interestingly, the big sedan is expected to receive more features and sell at a higher price, making for a more upscale and luxurious offering.
The shift will likely end the model overlap, effectively preventing the Impala and Malibu from stealing each other's sales.
Taking the spot vacated by the Impala, which will move to the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, the XTS will reportedly be manufactured in Oshawa, the same plant that produces the Chevrolet Camaro and Buick Regal. GM has yet to make it official, though.
