Corvette, represented by Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli in the No. 10 SunTrust Corvette DP, and Ferrari, thanks to Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato aboard their No. 69 FXDD Ferrari 458 Italia, won their respective class of a soaked wet Grand-Am Grand Prix of Miami.
Because of the conditions, officials had to shorten the race by 45 minutes, stopping it at the 2-hour mark.
"It would have been nice for all the fans that are weathering all this rough weather […] to get some more action out there," said DP winner Taylor. "But for me I was very happy just to take the yellow flag and cruise around. It was very wet."
Taylor inherited the lead after then pace setters Enzo Potolicchio and Richard Westbrook had a run-in together, on lap 25.
Following Taylor and Angelelli in the DP category are Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas at the wheel of the No. 01 TELMEX BMW/Riley and then David Donohue and Darren Law in a second Corvette, the No. 5 of Action Express Racing.
In GT, Dane Cameron and teammate Wayne Nonnamaker (No. 42 Team Sahlen Mazda RX-8) brought their car home second in the GT class, behind Segal and Assentato, with Robin Liddell and Ronnie Bremmer (No. 57 Stevenson Auto Group Chevrolet Camaro) completing the podium.
"Obviously, we have a lot of races left to go," pointed Segal out. "But I think everybody is comfortable with the car. We're comfortable with each other, so we're hoping that this is the start of a good run this season."
