Jon Fogarty broke the Mid-Ohio track record during qualifying of the EMCO Gears Classis, Grand-Am's 2011 finale. Fogarty therefore took pole in the Rolex Sports Car series. James Gue also claimed the pole, but in the Continental Tire Sports Car Series, according to Grand-Am's website.

Fogarty, in the Daytona Prototype class, clocked a lap in 1min16.504s, good enough to beat Memo Roja's 1min16.605s track record. Fogarty is sharing driving duties in the GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet/Riley No.99 with Alex Gurney.

Even though Rojas has lost his track record to Fogarty, he still holds on to the lead in the championship. To clinch the title, he only needs to complete the minimum 30 minutes needed to score points.

In the GT class of the Rolex Sports Car Series, Ronnie Bremer led a Chevrolet 1-2-3. Borris Said and Daniel Herrington are starting second. Leh Keen and Andrew Davies (Brumos Racing Porsche GT3) failed to qualify their car. If they want to convert their championship lead into a title, they will have to work hard from 19th on the grid.

Sarah Cattaneo, in the Continental Tire Sports Car Series Street Tuner class holds on to her hopes of becoming the first woman ever to win a Grand-Am championship. Trailing by 9 points, she made sure she didn't have too many cars to pass on the track by grabbing pole position.

In the Grand Sport category, James Gue in his JBS Motorsports Ford Mustang stayed ahead championship leader, Paul Dalla Lana, who only managed fifth.
