Sebastien Loeb officially launched his racing team Thursday evening, and revealed some details of its racing program for the future.
During the last round of the French GT3 championship at circuit Paul Ricard HTTT, Loeb announced the creation of his own racing team, in collaboration with long-time friend Dominique Heintz.
The team has been officially launched Thursday evening in his native town of Haguenau, near Strasbourg, France.
The main objective of Sebastien Loeb Racing is to contest the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans with an LMP2 prototype, but 2013 remains a possibility.
To gain experience, the team will run two Porsche 911 GT3s in the French Porsche Carrera Cup next season. In addition, the team will also run a Formula Le Mans prototype in the European Le Mans Series.
Sebastien Loeb Racing may also enter in selected races of the French GT championship with a Porsche 997. The names of the drivers has not been revealed yet.
Loeb himself should occasionnaly drive one of these cars, but it will depend on his racing schedule. For now, the eight-time World Rally Champion has a one-year contract with Citroen in the WRC, plus an option for a second year in 2013. Loeb should join his team in 2014, or in 2013 if he decides to stop rallying earlier than expected.
In addition, Sebastien Loeb Racing aims to help young drivers to compete in endurance racing.
"This launch is a step forward for the team," Loeb said. "This is a milestone: we ar showing our objectives, our program and our first partners. The team has now been launched!"
"Clearly, Le Mans is our objective", confirmed Dominique Heintz. "Le Mans is a dream, it represents a tremendous challenge. But we need to take our marks first, in order to succeed. That will be done with the Porsche Carrera Cup, a one-make championship which is very difficult. The Formula Le Mans series will enable us to get experience with a prototype car before stepping up to the LMP2 category."
