November 1986 the first Canadian-built Honda Accord rolled off the line in Alliston, Ontario, from a plant with an initial capacity of 40,000 units. In 1988 Alliston became the sole North American source for the Civic Hatchback, and in 1989 a stamping facility was added. Capacity had risen to 100,000 units per year. 1995 saw the Civic Sedan and Civic Hatchback both being built in Alliston and the following year the Acura El was added to the mix as capacity reached 150,000. 1995 also saw the announcement of an expansion to add a second line, which by September 1998 was operational, and the sole source for the Odyssey mini-van. Capacity was now 280,000 units. Through innovation and the introduction of Honda's flexible New Manufacturing System, capacity to meet customers' requirements had risen to 360,000 units, by 2003 with the 5 products shown above the capacity will be 390,000.
