The iconic NSX is arguably the ultimate Honda/Acura ever created. With exotic car looks, an almighty V10 engine and a relatively-affordable price considering the available performance, it had all the ingredients to become a classic. So when rumours of a possible successor began circulating around the web, many fans understandably jumped with joy.
Today, Honda Motor Co. President Takanobu Ito confirmed that his company is indeed developing a sports car that will be the spiritual heir to the discontinued NSX. Promising an exhilarating yet environmentally-friendly model, he also said the V10 will be replaced with a high-performance version of the hybrid powertrain found in the Honda CR-Z.
At a time when fuel economy is more important to automakers than ever, this decision makes sense. Some people will inevitably cry foul, but keep in mind that going hybrid no longer means sacrificing performance. A prime example is Porsche's 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Honda could certainly take a page from their book.
Still, don't get your hopes too high just yet, as plans for an NSX replacement have been killed twice in the past. Keep your fingers crossed!
