With the growing popularity of sub-compact SUVs, anything is possible

Good news: Hyundai has a sub-compact SUV in the works, called Kona.

Bad news: It will launch in Europe, and there are no immediate plans to sell the vehicle in North America.

However, given the new Hyundai Kona’s modern, aggressive style (based on the teaser shot above) and the mention of a “true SUV” with “premium features,” it sure would be embraced by drivers in Canada and the U.S. Direct competitors would include the likes of the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Ford EcoSport, Nissan JUKE, Toyota C-HR, and more.

Once again, Hyundai chose a name that echoes hot and exotic climates, more precisely the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii, which is known for its energetic image and unique lifestyle.
