Indy Lights: Brandon Wagner wins the race, Jean-Karl Vernay takes the crown

Competing in his fifth race this season, Brandon Wagner held off Canadian James Hinchcliffe for his first victory and first for Davey Hamilton Racing in the Firestone Indy Lighst series in Miami. Frenchman JK Vernay wrapped up the title by taking the start of the race.

Wade Cunningham, who won the Firestone Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May in his only other start this season, finished third.

Adrian Campos Jr. was fourth while pole sitter Pippa Mann completed the top 5 of the Indy Lights 2010 season’s finale.

Wagner, a former USAC National Midget competitor, jumped from his third starting position at the green flag and led all but one lap.

For Canadian James Hinchcliffe, the series championship runner-up, it was his 10th top-five finish, which includes three victories, of the season.

Vernay, who started 13th and finished 15th in the race as he had only to take the green flag to win the 2010 Indy Lights championship. Vernay is the fifth first-year driver to win the Firestone Firehawk Cup.
