The IndyCar Series has revealed its 2012 schedule and the surprise is not only coming from the venues that were dropped, but surely by the lack of new tracks chosen to replace the abandoned ones.
The open-wheel series has now a shorten 15-round calendar the upcoming season with the Kentucky circuit plus the New Hampshire oval omitted from the schedule.
Also missing, although it had been known for some time now, are the Las Vegas oval, where Dan Wheldon lost his life tragically in the season's finale and the Motegi road course.
Making the comeback in 2012 are the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit and the Fontana Superspeedway in California, while a street race at Quindao in China gets an August 19 date.
Some other venues could be added to the 2012 schedule. Any announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
The 101st edition of the famed Indianapolis 500 will be held May 27, with Pole Day a week earlier on May 19.
