There was a lot of action in Sonoma Thursday as twenty IZOD IndyCar Series drivers participated in a test at Infineon Raceway in preparation for the Aug. 28 Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Defending Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma pole sitter and race winner Will Power posted the quickest unofficial lap time of 1:19.04 on the 12-turn, 2.303-mile course in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car.
The California event has had six different winners (Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti and Power) in as many races.
Both Target Chip Ganassi drivers Scott Dixon (1:19.49) and Dario Franchitti (1:19.60) were next followed by Loudon's winner and Andretti Autosport’s driver Ryan Hunter-Reay (1:19.77) and by E.J. Viso (KV Racing Technology-Lotus, 1:19.79).
Giorgio Pantano, who has been appointed as substitute for injured Justin Wilson at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, was on hand to get back into the pace for the upcoming Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma and the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix (Sept. 4). He had a best unofficial lap time of 1:19.79.
28-year-old Ho-Pin Tung was also present for Dragon Racing as he is preparing for his second IndyCar outing in 2011.
